Child neglect is not being taken seriously enough and should be treated with the same urgency as physical or sexual abuse.
New research has revealed that of children known to the authorities as being at risk, and died or were seriously injured, 59 per cent had been on a child protection plan for neglect at some point in their lives.
If ignored, child neglect can lead to accidental injuries, physical or mental health problems, long term lack of self-esteem and even suicide.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP?
Almost one in 10 children in the UK are neglected by their parents.
Problems of neglect are severe, making up nearly half of all abuse cases in England. Yet incidences often get overlooked because they are rarely reported, compared to other types of harm.
